About this calculator
UK Budget Calculator
This calculator starts with your gross salary and works out what actually reaches your bank each month, using 2026/27 income tax bands (including Scottish rates), National Insurance, pension contributions and student loan repayments.
It then splits that take-home pay with the 50/30/20 rule: about half for needs like rent and bills, 30% for wants and 20% for savings and extra debt payments. Add your essential costs to see how your real spending compares.
The 50/30/20 rule is a starting point, not a strict target. With UK rents, many households spend more than half on needs. What matters is giving every pound a job and saving something each month. Our free budget template and the full UK Budget Planner help you do that month by month.
